Make Your Marketing Go Viral

This is it! We’re going to create a viral video. Any questions?

Let’s get one thing straight, that is now not to begin a viral marketing project.

Actually, you can’t create a piece of viral marketing, it’s the public that do that.

What is viral marketing?

Viral marketing involves the use of social networks to promote brand awareness through a self-replicating viral process.

In other words, it only goes viral if you create something that people love and want to share with their friends, who then share it with their friends, who then share it with their friends, who then share it with their friends…

That’s why you can’t make a viral video, image or eBook, only the public can do that.

What makes something go viral?

There is one key element to making something go viral – emotion.

Creating an emotional connection is essential because someone isn’t going to share it just because you ask him/her to; it has to resonate with them and make them want to show it to their friends, share it on their Facebook page, or talk to people about it.

That doesn’t mean it has to be funny, gimmicky or clever, it just needs to touch them in some way.

Quite often the simplest ideas are the best, here are some of my favourites:

Finding the idea that’s right for you means researching your audience to discover the right emotional trigger to kick-start the ‘I need to share this’ reflex.

What is your favourite viral marketing campaign?

What was it about it that grabbed your attention?
