Blogging is time consuming, but it’s also one hell of a powerful way to promote your business and your reputation.

Making the time to blog is essential if you are to succeed at it; that means building time into your weekly routine and treating it like part of your marketing strategy rather than the job that always gets left until the last minute.

But even if you do that are you wasting your time?

Well, if you think that building your reputation involves writing something, publishing it and then writing something else, yes, you’re wasting your time.

You see blogging should be active.

Let me explain.

Active blogging

If you publish a blog and then forget about it, you’ve wasted the time it took to write it in the first place.

OK, you might push the link out though Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, but is that really enough?

Are you actively monitoring those channels and responding to comments?

The idea of blogging is to get information and advice out into the world to start conversations with your readers. If you ignore what they have to say, what kind of signal are you sending out?

Plus, what about your older posts?

Reinvigorate old blog posts

Are you older posts languishing somewhere, forgotten and unloved?

Don’t let your blogging platform be the place your posts go to die.

You’ve put a lot of work into them; they deserve more than just a fleeting glimpse of the limelight.

It’s essential you make your content work for you (after all, you spent long enough creating it) – repost old blogs, refer to earlier posts in your newer stuff that’s on a related topic, you can even revisit past posts (especially those that performed well) and update them.

How about referring to older posts that are still relevant in your newsletters to generate new interest in them?

There are so many things you can do to keep your posts alive and kicking and to keep the buzz buzzing.
